The project involves the design of a working urban farm that will be incorporated into the curriculum at PS 312 and IS 78. The farm will provide opportunities for students to learn about the origin of food. Grain Collective is the lead consultant, working with the School Construction Authority on the design of a new outdoor didactic space. NDNY collaborated with Grain Collective on the concept design of the outdoor structures - an outdoor classroom with kitchen elements, outdoor storage building and a comfort station. NDNY proposed the outdoor structures be built out of shipping containers, modified to suit the classrooms and storage function. Shipping containers are cost-effective, prefabricated, extremely durable structures suitable for outdoor use.
