This project involved the transformation of Waterworks’ existing Flatiron showroom, including the full renovation of the existing space and the addition of a newly renovated second floor. The design merges two full floors to create a unified showroom experience that highlights the character of the historic neo-Renaissance/modern French store-and-loft building.

At the heart of the renovation is a custom-designed cantilevered glass and steel staircase—a sculptural centerpiece of the first-floor retail space. Slightly offset from the wall, the staircase appears to float, enclosed by a continuous glass guardrail that seamlessly connects to the second-floor landing. Behind it, a striking 30-foot mural titled "Rainy Day in NYC" by Christoph Niemann anchors the space. Composed of over 3,000 Waterworks Architectonics2 tiles, the mural pays tribute to the spirit and resilience of New York City.

The first floor showcases fittings, hardware, accessories, and hospitality kitchen displays, while the second floor features dedicated retail areas for tile, plumbing, and lighting, along with workspaces toward the rear. All millwork was custom-fabricated by Waterworks, reinforcing the brand’s attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Material selections create a clear spatial narrative: dark Piedmont and mosaic tiles define the first-floor zones, while white Carrara marble was installed throughout the second floor, cascading down the new stair to visually link the levels.

Original architectural details were meticulously preserved and restored. Existing plaster ceilings were repaired using molds taken from surviving elements, allowing seamless integration around the new stair opening. The coffered ceilings on the second floor were also preserved. Select existing light fixtures were salvaged and repurposed, while new suspended fixtures were introduced to complement the space. Mechanical and fire protection systems were upgraded throughout both floors to meet current codes and performance standards.
