Sundays is a nail salon that offers spa services as well as meditation classes. Committed to offering a green alternative to the nail industry’s potentially toxic products Sundays is focused on developing and providing innovative organic products and wellness services. An existing second floor apartment space in Soho was converted to a commercial space to accommodate the new salon, while retaining a residential ambience. The existing open kitchen area was converted to a retail space with a kitchenette for events. The living space was transformed into the pedicure space with custom built banquette seating. Two bedrooms towards the rear of the apartment were combined to create a manicure space. The pedicure space opens onto a terrace with seating. In keeping with the philosophy of Sundays the salon was conceived as a natural, minimalist and aesthetically pleasing background to help relax and rejuvenate customers and add to their experience. The color scheme includes soft white, pale brown and rose accents with pendant lights and minimalist furniture. Soft lighting compliments the scenario with recessed lights and display shelving. A new mechanical exhaust system was assembled in the space. Each manicure and pedicure station is individually exhausted with a built-in ventilation system that protects both customers and employees from exposure to any chemicals that are released. The custom-built manicure table has circular pores on the surface that help to exhaust any chemicals. Exhaust vents integrated into the custom millwork serve to remove any chemicals from the pedicure area. The entire mechanical system was coordinated and designed to function efficiently with minimum intrusion into the space. The custom built wood bench at the terrace conceals an exhaust duct.
